Expecting a gussied up version of the Algonquin? So was I; for better or worse, it wasn't to be. When your only common ingredient is vermouth, you're scarcely next of kin. Instead we get a gin martini that has been napalmed with aniseed. Pernod needs a stronger opponent than delicate herbs and botanicals. Not even a fair fight.
