  • 2 nails fresh ginger
  • 1½oz vodka
  • 4oz apple juice
  • ½oz ginger syrup
  • ½oz apple schnapps
Muddle ginger in shaker, add everything else, shake, strain.


Let me save you a frustrating and ultimately fruitless round of internet sleuthing: "nail" is not a recognised unit in any self-respecting system of measurement. In the end I ended up with a couple of pieces about the size of my thumbnail that I then trimmed to look like carpentry nails. Bases covered! Ultimately the question though is, "Is this worth making ginger syrup?" Surprisingly enough the answer is a solid maybe (which turns into a yes when you realise that ginger syrup just needs soda water to become ginger ale). Didn't expect to like this one, not being a fan of apple juice, but it's well balanced and not overly sweet. Seems like it would be a good warm drink in the snow.
